### Past Personal Necessity: "I Had To"

When you want to state that a *specific person* had an obligation in the past—such as "I had to go" or "We needed to help"—you combine a short verbal noun with a possessive suffix and the word **lazımdı** (or **gerekiyordu**).

To build this structure:
- Take the verb stem.
- Add the short verbal noun suffix **-ma** or **-me** (following 2-way vowel harmony).
- Add a possessive suffix to indicate whose obligation it was (e.g., **-m** for "my", **-miz** for "our").
- Add **lazımdı** (it was necessary).

For example, to say "I had to drop by", you use the verb **uğramak**: **uğrama** + **m** = **uğramam lazımdı** (literally: "my dropping by was necessary").

### Third-Person Necessity: "He/She Had To"

When describing someone else's obligation ("he/she had to"), attach the third-person possessive suffix **-sı** or **-si** to the verbal noun. 

If you name the person who had the obligation, that noun takes the genitive case ending (**-ın** / **-in** / **-nın** / **-nin**), just like in a standard "owner-owned" relationship. For example, **halamın girmesi** (my aunt's entering) or **dedenin ilgilenmesi** (the grandfather's taking care).

### Family Duties and Plural Subjects
