How much and how long (ne kadar)

When discussing electric vehicles, you can use a single question word to ask about range, battery capacity, and charging times: ne kadar.

Asking "How much?"

Ne kadar literally means "what amount" and translates to "how much." Place it at the end of a sentence to ask about a total, or directly before a noun or adjective.

What is this car's range?
Bu arabanın menzili ne kadar?
How large is the battery's capacity?
Bataryanın kapasitesi ne kadar büyük?
How much fuel does the electric car save?
Elektrikli araba ne kadar yakıt tasarrufu yapıyor?

Asking "How long?"

Ne kadar also asks for amounts of time ("how long"). Pair it with zaman (time) to ask "how much time," or with a verb like sürmek (to take / to last) to ask about duration.

How much time does it take to fully charge the car?
Arabayı tamamen şarj etmek ne kadar zaman alıyor?
The battery is at fifty percent, how long does it take to fully charge?
Batarya yüzde elli, tamamen şarj etmek ne kadar sürüyor?
If you are charging the battery at home, it takes ten hours.
Bataryayı evde şarj ediyorsan on saat sürüyor.

Talking about Percentages

To answer questions about battery life, you need percentages. The word for percent is yüzde (literally "in a hundred"). Unlike English, you always state yüzde before the number.

percent
yüzde
The car's battery is at twenty percent, it needs to be charged.
Arabanın bataryası yüzde yirmi, şarj etmek lazım.
