Expressing reservation (ne var ki)

When embarking on an ambitious project—like colonizing a new planet—things rarely go as planned. To introduce a major obstacle or reservation, use the conjunction ne var ki.

The colonists found a new planet, however the air is poisonous.

Translating to "however" or "the catch is," ne var ki connects a hopeful situation or established fact with a harsh reality or limitation.

The air is breathable, however the gravity is very different from Earth's.
We established a large settlement, however the area for mining is limited.

Ne var ki links two independent clauses and typically follows a comma.

We have big goals regarding that planet; however, the atmosphere is not breathable.
We can establish a new colony; however, this planet is not suitable for agriculture.
