Days of the Week
In Turkish, you do not need a preposition like "on" to say "on Monday" — simply state the day itself. Days of the week are not capitalized unless they start a sentence.
Here are the weekdays:
- pazartesi (Monday)
- salı (Tuesday)
- çarşamba (Wednesday)
- perşembe (Thursday)
- cuma (Friday)
Use these to talk about schedules or check if a place is açık (open) or kapalı (closed):
| The museum is closed on Monday. | Müze pazartesi kapalı. |
| We are going to the museum on Tuesday. | Biz salı müzeye gidiyoruz. |
| I am working at the office on Thursday and Friday. | Perşembe ve cuma ofiste çalışıyorum. |
The Weekend
The weekend consists of:
- cumartesi (Saturday)
- pazar (Sunday)
Notice that cumartesi (Saturday) literally means "after Friday" (cuma + ertesi). Monday (pazartesi) follows the same pattern: "after Sunday".
| The bakery is not closed on Saturday. | Fırın cumartesi kapalı değil. |
| I am resting at home on Saturday and Sunday. | Cumartesi ve pazar evde dinleniyorum. |
Combining Days
Use ve (and) to state that something happens on multiple days.
| The teacher is at school on Wednesday and Thursday. | Öğretmen çarşamba ve perşembe okulda. |
| The greengrocer is open on Sunday and Tuesday. | Manav pazar ve salı açık. |
