Making Comparisons with "Daha"
In Turkish, there is no "-er" suffix for adjectives (like "older" or "faster"). Instead, simply place the word daha (more) directly before the adjective.
| This house is older. | Bu ev daha eski. |
| That table is heavier. | O masa daha ağır. |
Saying "Than"
To compare two things and say "more ... than", add the ablative (from) suffix -den or -dan (or -ten / -tan) to the thing you are comparing against, followed by daha and your adjective.
| The plane is faster than the train. | Uçak trenden daha hızlı. |
| You are stronger than us. | Siz bizden daha güçlüsünüz. |
Superlatives with "En"
To say "most", "biggest", or "fastest", use the word en (most) right before the adjective. Just like with daha, there is no special "-est" suffix to learn.
| This is the fastest car. | En hızlı araba bu. |
| Who is the oldest person? | En yaşlı kişi kim? |
Putting It Together
You can chain comparisons together with ve (and), or use your superlatives to modify nouns inside larger sentences.
| That man is fatter and poorer. | Şu adam daha şişman ve daha fakir. |
| The most important file is old. | En önemli dosya eski. |
