I learned that "not" is ไม่. Why do we use อย่า here instead?
You use ไม่ for regular statements to say something is not true or you are not doing something. However, อย่า specifically means "do not" for commands or requests. Whenever you want to tell someone not to do an action, you must use อย่า. Here, อย่า ลืม means "do not forget!"
Why are the verbs ลืม (forget), มา (come), and ทำงาน (work) just placed right next to each other?
In English, we need connecting words like "to" when we put verbs together ("forget to come to work"). Thai grammar is much simpler here! You can just chain verbs directly together in a row. It literally translates to "forget come work".
Why is the time word พรุ่งนี้ (tomorrow) placed at the very beginning of the sentence?
In Thai, words that tell you when something happens usually go either at the very beginning of the sentence or at the very end. Putting พรุ่งนี้ at the front of the sentence is completely natural and just helps set the stage for the command right away.
Why isn't there a word for "you" in this sentence?
Thai speakers often drop pronouns (like I, you, he, she) when the meaning is obvious. Because you are using the command word อย่า to speak directly to someone, it is already perfectly clear that "you" are the person who shouldn't forget.
