Questions & Answers about คุณ ทำงาน ที่ไหน ครับ
Why is ที่ไหน at the end of the sentence instead of the beginning?
In English, we put 'where' at the beginning of the sentence. But in Thai, question words usually stay exactly where the answer would go. Since the answer would be 'I work at a clinic', the question word ที่ไหน goes at the very end of the sentence, right after the action.
What do the two parts of ที่ไหน mean on their own?
ที่ means 'at' or 'place', and ไหน means 'which'. So when you ask ที่ไหน, you are literally asking 'at which place'.
Do I need to add a question word like ไหม at the end to show it is a question?
No, you do not need it here. Because ที่ไหน is already a question word, adding ไหม is unnecessary. If you added it, it would sound confusing, like asking 'Where do you work, yes or no?'.
Is ทำงาน a single word for 'work'?
It acts as one word, but it is built from two pieces. ทำ means 'to do' or 'to make', and งาน means 'work' or 'job'. So you are literally saying 'do work'.
