Questions & Answers about ด้วยความที่ ย่า เป็น คน ใจกว้าง ก็เลย ให้อภัย พวก เขา ค่ะ
How is ด้วยความที่ different from just using เพราะว่า (because) here?
While เพราะว่า is a general 'because', ด้วยความที่ specifically means 'out of a certain trait or state' (literally 'with the fact that'). It is the perfect choice here because grandma's action (forgiving) is a direct result of her inherent personality trait (being a generous person).
In English we don't say 'Because X, so Y.' Why is ก็เลย used in the second half of this sentence?
Thai frequently uses paired conjunctions to emphasize cause and effect. When you start a sentence with a causal phrase like ด้วยความที่, it is very natural to follow up the result clause with ก็เลย (so/therefore). Dropping it would make the sentence feel structurally incomplete to a native speaker.
Why do we say เป็นคนใจกว้าง instead of just เป็นใจกว้าง?
In Thai, the verb เป็น (to be) must be followed by a noun, which is why we add คน (person). You cannot use เป็น directly before an adjective like ใจกว้าง (generous). If you want to omit คน, you must also omit เป็น and just say ย่าใจกว้าง (grandma is generous), where the adjective acts as the verb itself.
The word for forgive is ให้อภัย. Do I need a preposition to say who is being forgiven, like 'give forgiveness TO them'?
No extra prepositions are needed. Although ให้อภัย literally means 'give pardon', it functions together as a standard transitive verb. You can place the object พวกเขา (them) directly after it.
