Questions & Answers about ภาพวาด นามธรรม ใช้ จินตนาการ มาก กว่า ภาพวาด สมจริง ค่ะ
Why use ภาพวาด instead of just ภาพ?
ภาพ is a broad word for 'picture' or 'image,' which can include photographs (ภาพถ่าย). By adding the verb วาด (to draw or paint), the compound word ภาพวาด specifically means a 'painting' or 'drawing.'
What is the literal breakdown of the word for abstract, นามธรรม?
It comes from นาม (name or concept) and ธรรม (nature or dharma). Together, นามธรรม refers to something conceptual, immaterial, or 'abstract.' For context, its opposite (concrete) is รูปธรรม, which uses the word รูป (shape or physical form).
How does สมจริง mean 'realistic'?
สม means 'to match,' 'to suit,' or 'to be worthy of.' Combined with จริง (real or true), สมจริง literally means 'matching reality,' which translates perfectly to 'realistic.'
How does the comparative structure มากกว่า function here?
มากกว่า means 'more than.' In Thai, the structure to compare the degree or amount of an action is Verb + Object + มากกว่า + Noun. So ใช้จินตนาการมากกว่า means '[it] uses imagination more than' the noun that follows it.
Since this lesson covers softening negatives, how would we use ไม่ค่อย... เท่าไหร่ to say realistic paintings 'don't use that much' imagination?
You would frame the sentence around the realistic paintings: ภาพวาดสมจริงไม่ค่อยใช้จินตนาการเท่าไหร่ค่ะ. This softens the statement to mean they 'don't particularly use much imagination,' which sounds much more polite and conversational than a direct, blunt negative.
