At the Art Gallery
When visiting an art gallery (แกลเลอรี) to see paintings (ภาพวาด), you might want to share your thoughts on the artwork.

Softened Negatives: ไม่ค่อย... เท่าไหร่
Giving a direct negative opinion can sound harsh. To sound more polite or to offer a gentle critique, soften negative statements using the frame ไม่ค่อย... เท่าไหร่.
Place the adjective or verb phrase between ไม่ค่อย and เท่าไหร่. Together, they mean "not really," "not that [adjective]," or "not particularly."
| This painting is not that realistic. | ภาพวาด นี้ ไม่ค่อย สมจริง เท่าไหร่ ครับ |
This structure also works with verbs to express that you do not fully grasp or enjoy a piece of art.
| I do not really understand the abstract artworks in this gallery that much. | ฉัน ไม่ค่อย เข้าใจ ผลงาน นามธรรม ใน แกลเลอรี นี้ เท่าไหร่ ค่ะ |
Critiquing Color and Composition
To give a more detailed evaluation, critique specific elements like the colors (สีสัน) and how harmonious (กลมกลืน) they are.
| The colors of that picture are not particularly harmonious. | สีสัน ของ รูป นั้น ไม่ค่อย กลมกลืน เท่าไหร่ ครับ |
You might also look at the composition (องค์ประกอบ) and consider what meaning the artist is trying to convey (สื่อ).
| The composition is good, but it does not really convey the meaning that much. | องค์ประกอบ ดี แต่ ไม่ค่อย สื่อ ความหมาย เท่าไหร่ ครับ |
Evaluating the Exhibition
Combine positive observations with gentle criticism to give a balanced review.
| The paintings are very creative, but the exhibition is not that interesting. | ภาพวาด สร้างสรรค์ มาก แต่ นิทรรศการ ไม่ค่อย น่าสนใจ เท่าไหร่ ค่ะ |
When an artwork fails to move you, use ไม่ค่อย... เท่าไหร่ to express that you do not care for it, or that its meaning is not particularly profound.
| I do not really like this statue that much. | ผม ไม่ค่อย ชอบ รูปปั้น นี้ เท่าไหร่ ครับ |
