The preposition 'according to' (ตาม)

Following Guidelines with ตาม

To express that an action is done "according to" a set of rules, instructions, or a recipe, place the preposition ตาม directly before the noun.

In the kitchen, this is heavily used when following a recipe (สูตร) or a specific method (วิธี). If you are following the instructions with perfect precision, add the word เป๊ะ (exactly) at the end of the phrase.

Measurements in Recipes

Thai recipes use familiar measurements like grams (กรัม), tablespoons (ช้อนโต๊ะ), and teaspoons (ช้อนชา). When listing ingredients, these function like classifiers, following the noun and the number.

"According to what..." (ตาม ที่)

Sometimes your guideline isn't a simple noun, but rather a relative clause, such as "what the teacher taught" or "what Mom ordered." To express "according to what...", attach the relative pronoun ที่ to ตาม, followed by the clause.
