The polite pronoun (ท่าน)

The Honorific Prefix ท่าน

In formal business, placing ท่าน immediately before a job title acts as an honorific prefix, showing high respect to the person holding that role.

Committees and Resolutions

When discussing corporate governance, use formal vocabulary like คณะกรรมการ (committee), เห็นชอบ (to approve), and มติ (resolution). To express deep professional respect, use the verb นับถือ.

The Standalone Pronoun ท่าน

ท่าน also acts as a standalone formal pronoun. Depending on context, it functions as a highly respectful "you" when speaking directly to a superior, or "he" / "she" when referring to them.

Formal Documents and Signatures

Written correspondence relies on specific classifiers and verbs. Use the classifier ฉบับ for letters and documents. When noting that an executive has signed a document, use the formal verb ลงนาม.
