Titles on Paper
Every Thai form and news article names people with a title:

A form then asks for your ชื่อ (first name) and นามสกุล (surname).

Formal Self-Reference: ตน and ตนเอง
News Thai avoids เขา inside reported speech: the person quoted refers to themselves as ตน — เขาบอกว่าตนไม่เกี่ยวข้อง he said that he (himself) was not involved. ตนเอง is the formal oneself, the written twin of ตัวเอง.
People, Formally
บุคคล is the formal person (spoken: คน), แพทย์ the formal physician (spoken: หมอ), and หล่อน a literary she you will meet in older novels and written narrative — recognize it, but use เธอ when you speak.
