Object fronting

The Topic-Comment Structure: Fronting the Object

In Thai, you can emphasize the object of a sentence by pulling it to the very beginning. This creates a topic-comment structure: you state the topic, then comment on it.

Moving the object to the front leaves its original spot after the verb empty (a "zero-pronoun"). It translates closely to the English phrasing, "This report, I just summarized (it)."

Discussing Office Tasks

This structure is highly natural for giving status updates. Notice how the fronted object is often paired with words like นี้ (this) or ทั้งหมด (all) to pinpoint exactly what needs attention.

Managing Files and Resources

Object fronting is the standard way to report that an action has been completed—or needs to be done—for a specific item.

Everyday Logistics

You will constantly hear this pattern in logistical conversations. State the item clearly up front, then let your team know who is handling it.
