Not Only... But Also...
To highlight bonus qualities, skills, or actions—like praising a fighter's diverse techniques—Thai uses the additive structure ไม่เพียงแต่... แต่ยัง.... It functions exactly like "not only... but also..." in English.
Describing Qualities
When describing the characteristics of a subject, simply place ไม่เพียงแต่ before the first adjective and แต่ยัง before the second.
| Muay Thai is not only dangerous but also very interesting. | มวยไทย ไม่เพียงแต่ อันตราย แต่ยัง น่าสนใจ มาก ครับ |
| That boxer is not only fast but also strong. | นักมวย คน นั้น ไม่เพียงแต่ เร็ว แต่ยัง แข็งแรง ค่ะ |
Linking Nouns
If you want to say someone or something is "not only [Noun A], but also [Noun B]", you must include the verb เป็น (to be) after both markers.
| Muay Thai is not only a sport but also an art. | มวยไทย ไม่เพียงแต่ เป็น กีฬา แต่ยัง เป็น ศิลปะ ค่ะ |
Emphasizing Multiple Actions
You can also wrap this structure around verbs to emphasize that a subject performs multiple actions. Place the grammar markers directly before the verbs you want to highlight.

Notice that if the action involves an object (like using fists or elbows), the object immediately follows its respective verb.
Adding Modifiers
When describing how an action is performed, the structure wraps around the entire verb-modifier phrase. You will frequently see the word ด้วย (too/also) added at the very end of the sentence for extra natural emphasis.
