Stating the Premise and Result with ในเมื่อ...ก็
When negotiating responsibilities, you will often need to state a factual premise and its logical consequence. To say "Since [this is true], then [that follows]," use the conjunction ในเมื่อ at the beginning of your premise, and pair it with ก็ in the result clause.
Structure: ในเมื่อ + [Premise Clause] + [Subject] + ก็ + [Result]
| Since you are not free, I will do the housework myself. |
This structure is highly useful for managing household chores (งานบ้าน) and ensuring everyone does their part by allocating (จัดสรร) specific roles (บทบาท).
| Since we live in the house together, we must allocate the roles well.
Passing the Buck and Willingness
When dividing labor, you might encounter friction, such as people passing the buck (เกี่ยง) to avoid chores, or expressing whether they are willing (เต็มใจ) to help. You can use ในเมื่อ...ก็ to firmly explain the consequences of an uncooperative attitude.
| Since you are preoccupied with passing the buck, I am not willing to help. |
Setting Conditions for Fairness
To reach a fair compromise, you can set stipulations or conditions (ข้อแม้) about how to ease or share the burden (แบ่งเบา).
| Since you want me to ease the burden, you must allocate the time.
When judging if an arrangement is equitable or fair (เป็นธรรม), you can use the same structure to point out if someone is being overly demanding or wanting their own way (เอาแต่ใจ).
| Since he is this demanding, this agreement is not fair. |
| Since the rules are fair, we must share the duties. |
