Daring to be Alone
When talking about doing activities solo, use the phrase ตามลำพัง (alone) at the very end of the clause.
To talk about "daring" to take on an activity, place the verb กล้า (to dare) directly before the main verb.
| I usually do not dare to travel alone. | ผม มักจะ ไม่ กล้า ไป เที่ยว ตามลำพัง ครับ |
| When I was a child, I liked to go on adventures alone. | ตอนที่ ผม ยัง เด็ก ผม ชอบ ผจญภัย ตามลำพัง ครับ |
Doing Things by Yourself
While ตามลำพัง means being physically alone, ด้วยตัวเอง means doing an action "by oneself" or "personally." It emphasizes that you completed the action without outside assistance.
Like ตามลำพัง, ด้วยตัวเอง belongs at the end of the clause.
| You must dare to decide by yourself. | คุณ ต้อง กล้า ตัดสินใจ ด้วยตัวเอง ค่ะ |
| He builds confidence by himself. | เขา สร้าง ความมั่นใจ ด้วยตัวเอง ครับ |
Independent Life Skills
When discussing independent living, you will often combine ด้วยตัวเอง with complex actions. Remember to keep it at the very end of the clause, safely after the verb and its direct object.
| The manager dares to manage the business by himself. | ผู้จัดการ กล้า บริหาร ธุรกิจ ด้วยตัวเอง ครับ |
