The Emphatic Particles นี่แหละ and นั่นแหละ
When you want to confidently point out "exactly this one" or "exactly that one," use the emphatic particles นี่แหละ and นั่นแหละ. They combine the demonstratives นี่ (this) or นั่น (that) with the emphatic particle แหละ.
To emphasize a specific person or thing, place the particle immediately after the noun or pronoun you are highlighting. This is perfect for making a bold identification, like pointing out a culprit (ผู้ร้าย) or confirming a soulmate (เนื้อคู่).
| I am exactly the one searching for a soulmate. | ฉัน นี่แหละ กำลัง ตามหา เนื้อคู่ ค่ะ |
| He is exactly the culprit and the root cause. | เขา นั่นแหละ คือ ผู้ร้าย และ ต้นเหตุ ครับ |
| You are exactly my inspiration. | คุณ นี่แหละ คือ แรงบันดาลใจ ของ ฉัน ค่ะ |
Standalone Subjects and "Aha" Moments
นี่แหละ and นั่นแหละ can also stand alone as the subject of a sentence, meaning "this exactly" or "that exactly." You will frequently see them paired directly with the verb คือ (to be) to reveal or define a specific truth.
This pattern is common during sudden realizations—when you finally figure something out (นึกออก) or identify a missing piece of information like a hint (คำใบ้), a weakness (จุดอ่อน), or a purpose (จุดประสงค์).
| I just figured it out. That is exactly the culprit's weakness. | ฉัน เพิ่ง นึกออก นั่นแหละ คือ จุดอ่อน ของ ผู้ร้าย ค่ะ |
| I just figured it out. This is exactly his purpose. | ผม เพิ่ง นึกออก นี่แหละ คือ จุดประสงค์ ของ เขา ครับ |
| That is exactly the hint that we are searching for. | นั่นแหละ คือ คำใบ้ ที่ เรา กำลัง ตามหา ครับ |
This standalone structure is also useful as a conclusion to a longer thought, confirming that the situation you just described is exactly what you mean.
| I have inspiration now. This is exactly the purpose of working. | ตอนนี้ ฉัน มี แรงบันดาลใจ แล้ว นี่แหละ คือ จุดประสงค์ ของ การทำงาน ค่ะ |
