Formal inclusive conjunction (ตลอดจน)

The Formal Conjunction ตลอดจน

When listing items in formal or professional contexts, such as academic writing or museum cataloging, Thai uses the conjunction ตลอดจน (as well as / up to and including) to connect nouns and noun phrases.

as well as / up to and including (extending to)
ตลอดจน

To connect two related subjects, objects, or ideas, simply place this conjunction directly between them.

Connecting Abstract Nouns

This conjunction is not limited to physical items. It frequently links abstract concepts, such as historical backgrounds, records, or conditions, bringing them together under a single formal description.

Complex Phrases and Extended Lists

You can also use this conjunction to link longer, descriptive noun phrases before attributing a shared action to them, such as entering their details into a system.

When a formal list contains three or more items, Thai drops the conjunctions between the earlier items. Those items are simply separated by a space (functioning like a comma in English), and ตลอดจน appears only once, placed immediately before the final item in the series.
