Doing Things Over with ใหม่
When your work is messy (เละ) or has mistakes, you often need to start over. In Thai, to express doing an action over again or from scratch, place the word ใหม่ (new/anew) directly after the action verb or its object.
Note the difference: While อีก means doing something again (one more time or adding more), ใหม่ specifically means re-doing it or starting over.
Here is how to say you must write or type an essay (เรียงความ) over:
Revising Art and Stories
This pattern works perfectly for revising creative projects. Whether you need to repaint (ระบายสี) a picture or completely change the plot (โครงเรื่อง) of a story, just add ใหม่ after the verb or the object.
If you are working on a novel and the plot needs fixing, you might have to compose (แต่ง) the story anew.
Proofreading and Editing Sections
Sometimes you don't need to redo the whole thing—just a specific section or verse (ท่อน). Before submitting work, it's always good practice to proofread (ตรวจทาน) it over.
If proofreading reveals that a section just isn't working, you might choose to delete it and write it over.
Copying and Redesigning
Whether you are recovering lost data by copying (คัดลอก) files, redesigning a poster (โปสเตอร์), or rewriting a poem (กลอน), the rule remains the same: Action + (Object) + ใหม่.
