Concession-override (...ก็เถอะ)

The Concession Particle: ก็เถอะ

In any partnership, there are bound to be flaws. The particle ก็เถอะ is placed at the end of a clause to mean "even so," "admittedly," or "though." It concedes a point before overriding it with a more important, positive reality.

The "Admitting X, But Y" Pattern

ก็เถอะ is frequently paired with แต่ (but) to create an "admitting X, but Y" structure. For example, you might concede that a spouse snores (กรน), but explain that it ultimately doesn't matter.

When minor annoyances arise, a common strategy is to simply let them pass (ปล่อยผ่าน).

Nagging and Petty Matters

You can soften the description of a partner who is nagging (ขี้บ่น) or sharp-tongued (ปากจัด) by pairing the criticism with ก็เถอะ and acknowledging their better traits.

Often, these complaints are just about petty things (หยุมหยิม).

Clashing and Looking Past It

It is normal for couples to clash (กระทบกระทั่ง) or bicker (ทะเลาะเบาะแว้ง). A key to a long-lasting (ยืนยาว) relationship is choosing to look past (มองผ่าน) these inevitable conflicts.

Ultimately, applying this concession mindset is what keeps a partnership strong.
