Doing Actions "In Time"
To express that an action was completed before a deadline, use the word ทัน ("in time"). Place it at the end of the action phrase: Action + ทัน.
| I got to the check-in counter in time. | ผม ไป ถึง เคาน์เตอร์ เช็กอิน ทัน ครับ |
| We checked our baggage in time. | เรา โหลด สัมภาระ ทัน ค่ะ |
Flights and Boarding
You can use this structure for any action, such as handing over your boarding pass or boarding the plane (ขึ้นเครื่อง) before the doors close.
| The passenger handed over the boarding pass in time. | ผู้โดยสาร ยื่น บอร์ดดิ้งพาส ทัน ครับ |
| We ran to the gate, so we boarded the plane in time. | เรา วิ่ง ไป ที่ เกต ก็เลย ขึ้นเครื่อง ทัน ครับ |
If you do not make it in time, you might miss your flight (ตกเครื่อง).
| He arrived at the airport in time, so he didn't miss his flight. | เขา ถึง สนามบิน ทัน ก็เลย ไม่ ตกเครื่อง ครับ |
To ask if someone managed to complete an action before a deadline, add the question word ไหม at the end of the sentence: Action + ทัน + ไหม.
| The traffic was very heavy. Did he board the plane in time? | รถติด มาก เขา ขึ้นเครื่อง ทัน ไหม คะ |
