Learn Swedish: Kanske hunden morrar därför att den är skygg. - Maybe the dog growls because it is timid.

Normally, Swedish strictly follows the V2 rule, meaning the verb must come in the second position of a main clause. However, kanske is a famous exception. When it starts a main clause, it frequently triggers V3 word order (Adverb - Subject - Verb). You actually can say Kanske morrar hunden, but Kanske hunden morrar is much more common in everyday Swedish.

Why use skygg for timid instead of blyg?

Blyg is used for social shyness in humans, like being nervous to speak up at a party. Skygg translates closer to skittish, timid, or fearful of contact. It is the perfect word to describe animals that are easily frightened or prone to avoiding strangers.

Is there a difference between using därför att and eftersom in this sentence?

You could use eftersom here and the sentence would mean the same thing. However, därför att puts a slightly stronger, more direct emphasis on the reason itself (the dog's timidity). Also, remember that you can start a sentence with an eftersom clause, but you generally cannot start a sentence with därför att.

Why is the dog referred to as den instead of han or hon?
