Questions & Answers about Vad oroar du dig för med hänsyn till havsnivån?
What exactly does med hänsyn till mean here, and could I use i förhållande till instead?
Med hänsyn till means "with regard to," "concerning," or "taking into consideration." It shows that the sea level is the specific factor you are thinking about. I förhållande till means "in relation to" or "compared to." If you used it here, it would sound like you are comparing your worries to the sea level itself, which doesn't make logical sense in this context.
Why do we need both dig and för in oroar du dig för?
The Swedish verb for "to worry" is the reflexive att oroa sig. Since the subject is du, the reflexive pronoun becomes dig. When you want to specify what you are worrying about, you must use the fixed preposition för to complete the phrase (att oroa sig för något).
Why is the preposition för separated from Vad, and could we put it at the very end?
This is a standard Swedish sentence structure. The question word Vad goes at the beginning, but its preposition för stays immediately after the verb phrase oroar du dig. You cannot put för at the very end of the sentence because the compound preposition phrase med hänsyn till havsnivån acts as a separate block of information added on to give context.
Why is there an s in the middle of havsnivån?
Havsnivån (the sea level) is a compound noun made from hav (sea) and nivå (level), which is then put into its definite form. The -s- is a common linking letter used to stick two nouns together smoothly, similar to how we form words like "sportsman" in English.
