Questions & Answers about Salen var full av folk.
Why use folk here instead of människor?
Folk is typically used to talk about people as an uncountable, general crowd, which fits perfectly when describing a full room. Människor means 'human beings' or 'individuals' and is used when you are counting people or focusing on them as individuals.
Why is the adjective full rather than fullt?
Adjectives in Swedish change to agree with the noun they describe. Because salen is an en-word (from en sal), the adjective takes the basic form full. If the room was an ett-word, like rummet (the room), it would be rummet var fullt av folk.
Is it always correct to use av when saying something is 'full of' something else?
Yes, just like in English, the standard preposition is av (of). You use full av for both physical contents, like this sentence, and abstract things, like full av energi (full of energy).
What kind of room is en sal compared to ett rum?
En sal is a large, spacious hall or room meant for gatherings, such as a banquet hall, a hospital ward, or a large lecture room. A standard, regular-sized room is just ett rum.
