Questions & Answers about Vi tycker att beteendet är oacceptabelt.
How does the prefix o- work in oacceptabelt?
Just like the prefixes 'un-' or 'in-' in English, the Swedish prefix o- is added to an adjective to give it the opposite meaning. Here, it changes acceptabel (acceptable) to oacceptabel (unacceptable).
Why does oacceptabelt end in a -t?
Adjectives must agree with the noun they describe. Because beteendet (the behavior) is an ett word, the adjective takes the neuter -t ending, making it oacceptabelt.
Could I use tror or tänker instead of tycker here?
No, tycker is required here because it expresses a subjective personal opinion. Tror is used for beliefs or things you are guessing about, and tänker is used for the active brain process of thinking or planning to do something.
What is the base form of the word beteendet?
The base form is ett beteende (a behavior). It is related to the reflexive verb att bete sig (to behave oneself). Because it is an ett word ending in a vowel, it simply takes a -t in the definite form to become beteendet (the behavior).
