Questions & Answers about E-boken läser vi på pekskärmen.

The current lesson is about using med for instruments and tools. Why do we use på here for the touchscreen?
Even though the touchscreen is a tool you use to read, Swedish treats screens and digital devices as surfaces or platforms. Just like in English, you read a book på (on) a screen, phone, or computer, rather than med (with) it. You would use med if you were talking about the body part used to interact with the screen, such as reading braille med fingrarna (with the fingers).
Why does the sentence start with the object E-boken instead of the subject vi?
This is a common Swedish structure called topicalization. By putting E-boken at the very beginning, the speaker places the focus on the book rather than who is reading it. Because Swedish strictly follows the V2 (verb-second) rule, the verb läser must stay in the second position, forcing the subject vi to swap places and come right after it.
How is the word pekskärmen built?
It is a compound word made from the root of the verb att peka (to point) and the noun en skärm (a screen), with the definite suffix -en added to the end. Literally meaning the point-screen, this is the standard Swedish word for a touchscreen.
