Questions & Answers about Jag är verkligen imponerad av din snabba bil.
Why do we use av after imponerad here?
In Swedish, the adjective imponerad (impressed) is strongly paired with the preposition av (by or of). While in English you might say you are impressed with something, Swedish always uses imponerad av.
Why is it snabba bil with an -a on the adjective, but the noun bil does not have the definite -en ending?
Possessive pronouns like din (your) act as definite markers. When you use an adjective after a possessive pronoun, the adjective must take the definite ending -a (snabba). However, the noun that follows always stays in its base, indefinite form (bil, rather than bilen).
Would imponerad change if the subject of the sentence was plural?
Yes. Imponerad is a past participle functioning as an adjective here. If the subject were plural, like vi (we), it would take the plural ending and become imponerade: Vi är verkligen imponerade av din snabba bil.
Why is there no -t at the end of imponerad?
