Questions & Answers about Vi måste riskera vårt eget kapital.
Why do we use eget here instead of egna after the possessive vårt?
This is the big exception for the word egen (own). Normally, adjectives take their definite form (ending in -a) after a possessive pronoun. However, egen is special. It declines like an indefinite adjective even after a possessive. Because kapital is an ett-word, it becomes eget.
How do the words vårt and eget show the gender of kapital?
Both words end in -t, which tells you that kapital is an ett-word. If the noun were an en-word, the sentence would use vår egen, and if it were plural, it would be våra egna.
Why isn't there an att (to) before the verb riskera?
The word måste (must) is a modal verb. In Swedish, just like in English, you do not use att (to) between a modal verb and the infinitive verb that follows it.
After vårt eget, why is kapital in the indefinite form?
Whenever you use a possessive pronoun like vårt (our), the noun that belongs to it must stay in the indefinite form. You say vårt kapital (our capital), never vårt kapitalet.
