Why is kapitel in the indefinite form? Doesn't English say 'the next chapter'?
In English we say 'the next', but in Swedish, the word nästa (next) is a special determiner. Words like nästa and samma (same) already point out exactly which thing we mean. Because of this, they are always followed by the indefinite form of the noun. So we use kapitel, not the definite kapitlet.
What is the definite form of kapitel, in case I need to use it without nästa?
Kapitel is an ett-word. When you want to say 'the chapter' on its own, it becomes kapitlet. Notice how the last e drops out to make it easier to say, so it is never spelled kapitelet. Just remember that right after nästa, you must stick to the indefinite kapitel!
