Questions & Answers about Jag valde samma titel själv.
Why is it samma titel and not samma titeln?
In Swedish, the word samma (same) is special because it is always followed by the indefinite form of the noun. Even though in English we say 'the same title', in Swedish you must leave off the definite ending and just say samma titel.
What is the base form of the verb valde?
The infinitive form is välja (to choose). It is an irregular verb, which is why the spelling and vowel change so much in the past tense to become valde (chose).
Why is it just själv here and not mig själv?
When you want to emphasize that the subject did something personally or without help, you just use själv (myself). You only use mig själv when 'myself' is the direct object receiving the action, like in 'I saw myself in the mirror'.
Can själv go anywhere else in the sentence?
Yes, you could move it to the very beginning for stronger emphasis: Själv valde jag samma titel (As for me, I chose the same title). Just remember that putting Själv first triggers the V2 rule, so the verb valde has to come right after it.
