Questions & Answers about I vår relation litar vi alltid på varandra.
Why do we need på before varandra?
The Swedish verb for "to trust" is lita på (literally "trust on"). Just like in English you say "listen to each other", in Swedish you must keep the preposition på before the reciprocal pronoun varandra (each other).
Why is the word order litar vi instead of vi litar?
This is the V2 rule in action. In Swedish, the verb must be the second piece of information in a main sentence. Since the starting phrase I vår relation takes up the first spot, the verb litar must come next, pushing the subject vi to the third spot.
Why does alltid come after the subject here?
Alltid is a sentence adverb. In a main clause, sentence adverbs normally come after the verb. Because the V2 rule swapped the verb and subject to litar vi, the adverb alltid simply tucks in right after both of them.
Why use vår instead of vårt or våra?
Possessive pronouns have to match the noun they belong to. The word relation is an en-word (en relation) and it is singular. Therefore, we use the singular en-word form vår (our).
