Questions & Answers about Varför är han så stressad idag?
Why does är come before han?
In Swedish, the verb is almost always the second idea in a main clause (this is known as the V2 rule). Since the question word Varför is in the first position, the verb är must come next, pushing the subject han to the third position.
Why does stressad end in -d instead of -t?
The word stressad describes han (he), which takes the standard en-word ending. If the subject were an ett-word, like barnet (the child), the word would change to stressat. If there were multiple people, it would be stressade.
Is stressad a verb or an adjective here?
It is functioning as an adjective, but it is technically a verb form (the past participle) of stressa (to stress). Just like in English with words like "stressed" or "tired", Swedish uses these verb forms to describe someone's current state.
I sometimes see idag written as two words (i dag). Which is correct?
Both idag and i dag are completely correct and mean exactly the same thing. Writing it as one word is very common in everyday Swedish, while the two-word version is slightly more traditional.
