Questions & Answers about Barnet leker inte här.
Why does the English translation say "is playing" but the Swedish sentence only has one verb, leker?
Swedish doesn't have a separate "is doing" (continuous) tense. The present tense leker translates to both "plays" and "is playing" in English. You never use a helper verb like är (is) for this in Swedish!
Since this lesson is about Group 2 verbs, how is the present tense leker formed?
The base form (infinitive) of the verb is leka (to play). For regular Group 2 verbs, you remove the final -a and add -er to create the present tense, which gives us leker.
Why does inte (not) come after the verb?
How does the word barnet translate to "the child"?
The word for a child is an ett word in Swedish (ett barn). Instead of using a separate word for "the", you attach -et to the end of the noun to say "the child", resulting in barnet.
