Questions & Answers about Parken är stor och fin.
Why does the word for park have -en at the end?
In Swedish, the word for "the" is attached to the end of the noun instead of being a separate word. Since "a park" is en park, you move that en to the end of the word to make parken (the park).
Why do we use stor and fin here instead of stort and fint?
Adjectives in Swedish change to match the noun they describe. Because park is an "en-word", we use the base forms stor (big) and fin (nice). If we were describing an "ett-word" like ett hus (a house), we would add a -t to the adjectives: Huset är stort och fint.
This lesson is about question words. How would I use one to ask "Where is the park?"
You would use the question word var (where). In Swedish questions, the verb always comes right after the question word, so you just swap the subject and the verb: Var är parken?
Does the verb är change if we talk about more than one park?
No, Swedish verbs are incredibly friendly! They never change based on who or what is doing the action. är can mean "am", "is", or "are", so even if we were talking about multiple parks, the verb stays exactly the same.
