When evaluating technical constraints, use the pseudo-passive construction låta sig to express feasibility—whether something "can be done" or "allows itself to be modified."
The "låta sig" construction
Combine the verb låta (to let/allow) with the reflexive pronoun sig (itself) and an infinitive verb. Often, this infinitive takes the passive -s ending.
| This structure can be modified. | Den här strukturen låter sig modifieras. |
| The database can be implemented without problems. | Databasen låter sig implementeras utan problem. |
Expressing constraints with "inte"
To state that something cannot be done, place inte immediately after låter sig.
| The blueprint cannot be modified. | Ritningen låter sig inte modifieras. |
| The algorithm cannot be integrated. | Algoritmen låter sig inte integreras. |
Active vs. passive infinitives
While the final verb often takes the passive -s form (such as göras), you can also use a standard active infinitive. The passive meaning is provided entirely by låta sig.
| It can be done. | Det låter sig göras. |
| The algorithm cannot be implemented in this system. | Algoritmen låter sig inte implementera i det här systemet. |
You will often see låta sig used in longer sentences to evaluate technical integrations:
| The module seems compatible, but it cannot be integrated. | Modulen verkar kompatibel, men den låter sig inte integreras. |
