To express that something is not required—that you "do not have to" or "do not need to" do it—use **behöver inte** followed by a bare infinitive (an infinitive verb without the marker *att*).

Be careful not to confuse a lack of necessity with a prohibition. To express a strict rule that you "must not" or "are not allowed to" do something, use **får inte** followed by a bare infinitive.
