The Same As
To say "the same [something] as," use samma + noun + som.
Unlike English, there is no word for "the" before samma. The noun following samma also takes its indefinite form. For example, "the same swimsuit" is simply samma baddräkt.
| Must I have the same swimsuit as my partner? | Måste jag ha samma baddräkt som min partner? |
| The team practices in the same pool as us. | Laget tränar i samma bassäng som vi. |
Exact Matches
To emphasize an exact match, add exakt (exactly) right before samma.
| We use exactly the same swimming cap and swimming goggles as you. | Vi använder exakt samma badmössa och simglasögon som du. |
| When the competition begins, they execute exactly the same choreography as us. | När tävlingen börjar utför de exakt samma koreografi som vi. |
Abstract Comparisons
You can use samma ... som for physical objects, abstract concepts like rhythm, or to compare something to how it was in the past (som tidigare).
| To be synchronized, one must do the same movement as the team. | För att vara synkroniserad måste man göra samma rörelse som laget. |
| Because she is my partner, we practice the same choreography as before. | Eftersom hon är min partner övar vi på samma koreografi som tidigare. |
| If we keep the same rhythm as the music, we perform better. | Om vi håller samma takt som musiken presterar vi bättre. |
Identical and Synchronized
When describing multiple items or a whole team, use adjectives like identisk (identical) and synkroniserad (synchronized). Remember to add an -a for plurals.
| Both the swimsuit and the towel must be identical. | Både baddräkten och handduken måste vara identiska. |
| When we jump into the pool, we are completely synchronized. | När vi hoppar i bassängen är vi helt synkroniserade. |
