In English, we use "very" for descriptions and "a lot" or "many" for quantities. Spanish has a similar split: **muy** and **mucho**.

### Using "Muy" (Very)

Use **muy** right before an adjective to intensify it. It is the exact equivalent of "very." Because it is an adverb, **muy** is invariable, meaning it never changes its form.

### Using "Mucho" (A lot / Much / Many)

When you want to talk about a large quantity of a noun (people, things, or concepts), use **mucho**. 

Unlike *muy*, **mucho** changes its ending to match the gender and number of the noun that comes after it.

### Putting it Together

A good rule of thumb: if the word comes right before an adjective, use **muy**. If it comes right before a noun, use a form of **mucho**.
