Contingency plans (en caso de que)

Just in Case: En caso de que

When exploring alternate dimensions or risking a time paradox, you always need a contingency plan. To express "in case" something happens, use the phrase en caso de que.

Because contingency plans deal with hypothetical events that may or may not actually occur, en caso de que is always followed by the subjunctive mood.

In case the traveler changes history, let's return to the future.

The main clause—the backup plan itself—can come before or after the en caso de que clause. It is frequently expressed as a command, a future action, or a statement of necessity using verbs like tener que (to have to) or deber (must).

In case we enter a loop, let's remember what to say.
We have to know where to flee in case a paradox occurs.
In case they open the dimension, we are going to travel to the parallel universe.
In case you discover an anomaly, you must know how to revert it.
