Comparatives of equality (igual de... que)

As... As...

When you want to say that two people or things share the exact same level of a quality—like being "as shy as" or "as lazy as" someone else—Spanish uses the phrase igual de... que.

To form this, place an adjective or adverb between igual de and que:

igual de + [adjective/adverb] + que

The younger twin is as shy as his sister.
El gemelo menor es igual de tímido que su hermana.

Keep in mind that the adjective must agree in gender and number with the first person or thing being described, even though it comes right after igual de.

My cousin is as generous as my mother.
Mi prima es igual de generosa que mi madre.

Using Pronouns

In English, we often say things like "as fast as me." In Spanish, you must use subject pronouns like yo (I) or (you) after que, rather than object pronouns (, ti).

I forgot that you are as fast as me.
Se me olvidó que eres igual de rápido que yo.
Even though he is outgoing, he is as lazy as you.
Aunque es extrovertido, es igual de perezoso que tú.
