Agreeing on plans (quedar en)

Agreeing on Plans with "Quedar en"

When you want to express that you have reached an agreement or settled on a plan, use the phrase quedar en followed by an infinitive verb. While the verb quedar on its own has many meanings, adding en translates directly to "to agree to" or "to agree on."

Quedamos en decidir cómo celebrar el aniversario.
They agreed to contribute the fee tomorrow.
Ellos quedaron en aportar la cuota mañana.

Tense and Pronouns

You can conjugate quedar in any tense depending on when the agreement is made. It is very common to use the preterite (past) tense to state what was already decided, but it works perfectly in the present tense as well.

They agree to set the day and review the list.
Ellos quedan en fijar el día y revisar la lista.
We agreed to contact the graduating class when the meeting ends.
Quedamos en contactar a la promoción cuando termine la reunión.

If the action you are agreeing to is a reflexive verb, simply attach the matching reflexive pronoun to the end of the infinitive.

Quedamos en reencontrarnos aquí el próximo fin de semana.
