Questions & Answers about Вряд ли они получат столько же наград, сколько и мы.
Why is наград in the genitive case here?
The words столько (so many) and сколько (how many) are expressions of quantity. Just like numbers or words like много, they require the noun that follows them to be in the genitive case. Since we are talking about multiple countable rewards, наград is in the genitive plural.
What purpose do the particles же and и serve in столько же... сколько и?
They emphasize the exact equality of the comparison. While столько... сколько simply means "as many as," adding же and и strengthens it to mean "exactly as many as" or "just as many as." You can drop them, but including them makes this type of comparison sound much more natural in Russian.
Why is мы in the nominative case instead of the genitive like наград?
Мы is the subject of the second half of the comparison. If we expanded the sentence to its full form, it would be ...сколько и мы получим (...as we will receive). Because мы is the subject doing the action of receiving, it stays in the nominative case.
