Questions & Answers about Мы скачали приложение, интерфейс которого был гораздо хуже.
Why is the word order интерфейс которого instead of которого интерфейс?
In Russian, when you translate 'whose' or 'of which' using the genitive relative pronoun (которого, которой, которых), the pronoun usually comes after the noun it modifies. So 'the interface of which' is literally интерфейс (interface) followed by которого (of which).
Why does которого take this specific neuter/masculine form here?
The relative pronoun который always agrees in gender and number with the noun it refers back to in the main clause. Here, it points to приложение (app), which is a neuter singular noun. It takes the genitive case because it indicates possession ('of which').
Could I use чей instead of которого to mean 'whose' interface?
It is much more natural to use которого here. While чей (whose) can sometimes act as a relative pronoun connecting clauses about people, it sounds highly unnatural when referring to inanimate objects like an app. For things, the standard rule is to use the genitive forms of который.
Why use гораздо instead of очень before хуже?
