Questions & Answers about Во время работы с новыми клиентами спрос на товары увеличился.
This lesson is about multiplicative comparisons. How would I add 'by three times' to say the demand increased threefold here?
You would use the structure you are learning and add в три раза right after the verb. The phrase becomes спрос на товары увеличился в три раза. Verbs of increasing or decreasing, like увеличиться, are the most common verbs paired with this в + Accusative + раз pattern.
Why do we say на товары (Accusative) after спрос?
The noun спрос (demand) always pairs with the preposition на plus the Accusative case to express what the demand is for. Whenever you want to talk about the demand for a certain good or service, you will use this exact pattern, such as спрос на услуги (demand for services).
Why is the verb увеличился reflexive (ending in -ся)?
Because the demand (the subject) is increasing on its own. The non-reflexive version, увеличил, means that someone increased something else, and it requires a direct object (for example, он увеличил цены - he increased the prices). Since the demand is simply going up as a general trend, we use the reflexive form.
Why does the sentence start with Во время instead of just using the preposition В?
Во время is a fixed compound preposition that specifically means 'during' and it is always followed by the Genitive case (here, работы). The о is added to в simply to make pronunciation easier before the tricky вр- consonant cluster.
