Questions & Answers about Мой дядя работает на этом предприятии.
Why does предприятии end in -ии instead of the standard prepositional ending -е?
The noun предприятие (enterprise) ends in -ие. Neuter nouns ending in -ие (as well as words ending in -ия and -ий) are special. Instead of the standard -е ending in the prepositional case, they take -ии.
Why do we use the preposition на here instead of в to say 'at this enterprise'?
While в is usually used for being inside buildings, Russian traditionally uses на for certain industrial workplaces and open spaces. You will always use на with предприятие (enterprise), завод (plant), and фабрика (factory).
The word дядя ends in -я. Why does it use the masculine pronoun Мой instead of the feminine Моя?
Even though дядя (uncle) has a typical feminine ending, it refers to a male person, so it is grammatically masculine. Any adjectives or pronouns attached to it must be masculine, hence Мой дядя.
