Questions & Answers about Мы готовы к обоим вариантам.
Why do we use обоим here instead of обеим?
Why does "ready for" translate to готовы к + Dative instead of using для?
While для often translates to "for", the Russian adjective готов (ready) specifically pairs with the preposition к plus the Dative case when you are talking about being ready for an event, action, or situation. You will see this a lot, like in готов к работе (ready for work) or готовы к обоим вариантам.
Why doesn't обоим end in -ам to perfectly match the noun вариантам?
Quantifiers and numbers have their own declension rules. While the noun вариантам takes the standard Dative plural noun ending -ам, оба acts a bit more like an adjective here. It attaches an adjective-style Dative plural ending (-им) to its special stem (обо-), giving us обоим.
Why use the short adjective готовы instead of the full form готовые?
When an adjective describes the state of the subject (like "We are ready"), Russian almost always uses the short form. Готовы is the plural short form matching Мы. You would use the full form готовые if it were describing a noun directly, such as "the ready options" (готовые варианты).
