Questions & Answers about Любопытная девочка догадывается о сюрпризе и шепчет секрет подруге.
Since our current lesson is about 'кое-', how would I say she whispers 'something' to her friend instead of a secret?
You would replace секрет with кое-что, making it шепчет кое-что подруге. We use кое-что because it refers to a specific 'something' that the girl knows, but is keeping somewhat hidden, which perfectly matches the context of a secret.
Why does догадывается take о сюрпризе instead of just taking a direct object in the accusative case?
The verb догадываться (to figure out or guess) requires the preposition о (about) followed by the prepositional case. Unlike English where you can 'guess the surprise', in Russian you always guess about something.
The infinitive for whisper is шептать. Why is it spelled шепчет here with a ч?
This verb undergoes a consonant mutation in the present tense. The т in шептать changes to ч for all present tense forms, giving us words like я шепчу (I whisper) and она шепчет (she whispers).
Why is подруга in the dative case (подруге) at the end of the sentence?
The friend is the receiver of the action. When you tell, give, or whisper something to someone, that person is the indirect object and takes the dative case in Russian.
