Questions & Answers about Ты хочешь найти новую работу, чтобы заработать на машину?
Why is there a comma before чтобы?
In Russian, чтобы (in order to / so that) introduces a new clause (a distinct part of the sentence with its own idea), and these must always be separated by a comma. Here, it introduces the purpose of finding the job.
Why does заработать stay in the infinitive? Shouldn't it be conjugated to match 'you'?
When the person doing the action is the exact same in both halves of the sentence (you want to find a job, and you are the one who will earn the money), чтобы is followed by an infinitive. You don't need to conjugate it.
The translation says 'for a car', so why use на машину instead of для машины?
When talking about earning, saving, or spending money to buy something, Russian uses на + the accusative case. If you used для машины, it would mean earning money for the benefit of an existing car (like to buy gas or new tires for it).
Why use the perfective verb найти (to find) instead of the imperfective искать (to look for)?
The speaker is focusing on the successful result (actually getting the job) rather than the ongoing process of job hunting. If you used искать, it would mean you just want to spend time looking for a job.
Why do новая and работа change to новую работу here?
They are in the accusative case because 'a new job' is the direct object receiving the action of being found. For feminine nouns and adjectives in this case, the endings change from -ая to -ую and -а to -у.
