Questions & Answers about Я хочу получить посылку от курьера.
Why do we use от here instead of из for "from"?
In Russian, от is used when you receive something from a person (like a courier, friend, or doctor). из means "out of" an enclosed space or container. Since a courier is a person, we use от, followed by the Genitive case (курьера).
What is the dictionary form of курьера, and why does it end in -а here?
The dictionary form is курьер (courier). The preposition от always requires the Genitive case. Since курьер is a masculine noun ending in a consonant, we add -а to the end to form the Genitive.
Why is the word for parcel spelled посылку here instead of посылка?
It is the direct object of the verb получить (to receive), so it must be in the Accusative case. The dictionary form is the feminine noun посылка, and in the Accusative case, the -а ending changes to -у.
Why use the perfective verb получить after хочу instead of the imperfective получать?
